Film Review: Deadpool

OMG! Deadpool is definitely the film of the year so far for me. Yes, I know it is only February, but this film is absolutely hilarious and I will be recommending everyone to watch it probably for the rest of the year. It has already had so many great reviews, and mine will only add to that list.

Deadpool follows the story of mercenary Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) who is subject to an experiment which he agrees to go under so he can be cured of his cancer, and go back to his fiancée Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). However, the treatment leaves him with accelerated healing powers, and has severely disfigured his face and skin. Villain Francis 'Ajax' Freeman who made him this way leaves Wilson for dead in a fire after telling him that he can cure his complexion. Wilson's new abilities enable him to survive and thus he adopts the alter ego of Deadpool, and then begins to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

We see various epic fight scenes alongside so many snarky jokes from Deadpool as he gets closer to finding Francis. However, Deadpool is interrupted by X-men characters, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, who want him to join the X-men, but this enables Francis to escape and Deadpool must start his search again. Later on, Francis kidnaps Vanessa as Wilson is preparing to confront her about what happened to him, and thus sparks another epic battle between Deadpool and Francis in order to rescue Vanessa. With the help of the two X-men, Deadpool manages to defeat Francis and rescue the love of his life, who later removes his mask and accepts him for who he is now and they are reunited at last.

So, in a way you could actually class this as a 'love film', but with the amount of rude jokes and insanely dark humour from Deadpool's character it is in no way romantic. I found myself laughing all the way through this film because the jokes and puns are actually non-stop, and so did the rest of the cinema audience. It is a film that could reach a whole new audience of comic book based films.

I would rate this film 8.5 out of 10, and I cannot wait to see it again!
Have you seen this film yet, and what did you think of it?
